Did you miss me?
Mar. 9th, 2006 04:28 pmI know I didn’t tell you I was gone, but I’m back. I attended a little two-day cheese conference in Sonoma and since I was moderating some of the panels I was given a motel room. I got to drive through Schellville and see the broken levee. Yup, a whole lot of grapevines underwater… I hate grapevines.
(Little known fact:
dairryiere won an award for grape staking and pruning in 4H as a youth. I had the best score on my Hunter’s Safety test. When the Bad Times come, you all wanna hang out with us, don’t you? Going north always makes me recall stories of North Bay youth, I guess)
Anyway, I may have more to say about the conference soon, but I gotta go into work and buy cheese for the weekend. For your weekends that is. My fridge is full of cheese freebies. A few quick thoughts:
-Anyone hear that KPFA show (I think Larry Bensky) with the Global Exchange guy, Kevin Danaher? I heard he repeatedly referred to our store as an "anarchist collective". I was working and didn’t hear it.
-This was underlined at the conference but it’s worth saying here: No, you can’t get milk and cheese with "No Hormones". You can get it without genetically engineered hormones (rBST) (though even that, if you are buying American , commercial , cow milk, is a faith-based purchase) but milk has hormones, always will. I can’t tell you how much I get asked that question and the labels of certain dairies do nothing but add to the confusion.
-Sure, I did tequila shots with the guy from "Beecher’s Cheese" up in Seattle, but I’m bringing in his "Flagship" cheese because it’s really good. So is their frozen Mac and Cheese.
