3 views into my psyche
Jan. 6th, 2007 10:39 am-I am one of those people that occasionally gets late night calls for help. I have gotten out of bed for friends in need. So when the phone rings at 3 AM I think "CRISIS!" not "wrong number". Last night I got a call from the 18 year old daughter of a cheesemaker but I couldn’t get to the phone in time and she didn’t leave a message. Just the act of the phone ringing that last at night is like a line of speed to me. I called her back but there was no reply. I stayed awake for the next 45 minutes calming down and thinking of all the things that could be wrong: stranded in the city… friend too drunk to drive home… trouble with someone she was on a date with…
We haven’t talked on the phone socially. She has my number form working a cheese event together where we needed to coordinate some stuff. She probably was just trying to call some friend named "Greg" or something and hit the wrong number in her phone. But still…
-I haven’t gotten sick in over a year. My sinuses hurt one night (the night I went to see ESG) but other than that I haven’t been laid up with anything. Instead of celebrating that fact, I keep thinking about how in the Great 1918 Flu Pandemic, it was the people who hadn’t gotten sick earlier that ended up dying.
-I think I mentioned it before but man, now that the holidays are over I’m ready to go to parties and have fun. One day maybe I won’t have a job that makes me work so much more when everyone else is working so much less. But I do love my job. Still, I think there should be a week of parties for retail workers from 1/1-1/8. Just saying.
