I had a great birthday, but things seem to be falling apart for everyone else. Friends are in the hospital, people are having family tradgedies, and my fellow cheese worker and good friend had his house burn down due to an electrical fire.

He and his wonderful roommate C weren't in the house at the time, so they are healthy and as well as can be expected, but most of their stuff is badly damaged by smoke, fire, or water. Also, their cats are missing, but hopefully they're hunkered down somewhere in the neighborhood and will turn up eventually. Cats are smart, right?

So C will probably be moving in with her partner a little earlier than she'd anticipated, and the equally lovable ilipodscrill has been offered the use of many couches and spare rooms while he figures out what's next.

ilipodscrill and C lived in this apartment for many years, and they'll have to replace a lot of stuff, as well as going through the expenses of moving. It's going to be really hard for a while, so we're passing the hat at work, and if you'd like to contribute, we'd all be grateful for whatever you can offer. When I asked, they said it's fine if I put the word out, and that it's okay if people donate money through my PayPal account, which is anarqueso@gmail.com. If you'd like to help, but feel uncomfortable doing it through my account, it's certainly alright to email ilipodscrill at ugatz9@yahoo.com and discuss what and how directly with him.

If you're not in a position to help with this, that's okay. Sometimes things are just tight, and sometimes things are impossibly tight. We've all been there. Maybe you need some help of your own, and maybe some of us would like to help you. Those of you who were with me a few years ago will remember that when Formaldehyde's back was broken, I had to learn a lot about the strength and value of asking my for help. It was hard on my sense of pride and independence, but it sure was good for my ideas about community and support.

I don't really expect people who don't know him to contribute, but thought I'd put this out there for any of you who know him or have been given cheese samples by the big bearded guy with the cool necklaces and the nice hats. No guilt.
