Best Misunderstanding
At some Queer Open Mic,
mrheathen asked me what was up with me. I said I had been visiting someone for a romantic weekend and mentioned that they had an 18 year old. Mr. H thought I said I was dating an 18 year old and a stilted conversation ensued. I can honestly say that Mr H is very understanding of other people's relationships, even if, in this case, she didn't need to be.
Best events
- My 40th b-day party
-Lance's memorial. His death sure sucked. But the memorial was tearful and touching and just what it needed to be.
-The Warriors making the playoffs and watching them beat the Mavericks in a sports bar with
superchones and
tlacuiloliztli

Best Cheese Description
Swiss Forsterkase. A collaborative description thought up in the exhausted retail days just before x-mas to describe the earthy, woody, rich, smoky and salty taste of this fabulous cheese.
anarqueso thought we were making fun of her descriptions, but we meant it, man.
Eating Forsterkase is like strolling through the bacon forrest in autumn.
Best cheese accomplishment:
Being a cheese judge at the biggest US cheese competition ever held
Top Ten Cheese List:
I was going to make a new one, but really this sums it up nicely. I would add the Vacherin Mont D'or that we got last month to the list because it was the best we've have in years. The "Bacon Forrest" Forsterkase was pretty damn good too.
3. Entertainment Division
Favorite New Album
Dub Pistols – "Speakers and Tweeters".
I bought this when I visited the Rough Trade Shop in London. I liked some of their old stuff but was moistly intrigued by their collaborations with ex-Specials. Their remake of "Gangsters" was kinda ehhh, but the rest of the album is awesome. They even made The Stranglers "Peaches" listenable which, if you know that song, is a huge more accomplishment.
Favorite New (to me) Album
Young Marble Giants – "Collosal Youth".
I don't know what was wrong with me that I didn't own this before this year. I loved the songs of theirs I heard, but never got around to finding their s/y first album. Quiet, minimalist, relationship-oriented post-punk of the first Rough Trade era. If you don't know them, you may know Courtney Love's version of "Credit in the Straight World". This album is all about the assumed and unsaid. It's an early '80s period piece to be sure , but I think it transcends the era. I found it addictive.
4. LJ Division
Possibly my favorite thread of the year:

from this post where I used reverse psychology on you all to see if you could come up with any funny punk macros.
Fave Post by Me (my resolution for next year is to bookmark your best posts so I can have favorite LJ posts as a category next year)
Sonic Youth through the ages
5. Miscellaneous Division
Biggest Asshole Besides Bush and Cheney and All Those Folks…
The airport pacer I still laugh at this post!
Best thing I almost forgot about mentioning
Saving bonfires from being outlawed on ocean beach
6. Political Division
Favorite Media Moment
The stupid-on-purpose rightwing press trying to make the beating of the Yale Glee Club into an issue of San-Francisco-is-so-Left-Fascist-that-singing-the-National-Anthem-will-get-you-a-beat-down. Ha. If only. Can you imagine Giants games? Incensed fans rushing the field to get at the boys choir… the cops fighting them back... it's a great ritual and it happens 81 nights a year.
Best Political Victory
I don't know. I can't really think of one, especially as SF's Universal Health coverage just got declared illegal by the courts. Suggest one in the comments and we'll vote.
7. Depressing Division
People who died who I want to mention one last time
-
prof_southbay's Dad
- Lance Hahn
- Heather McCallister
- Bill Walsh
