I met [livejournal.com profile] socialretard and [livejournal.com profile] slipkid for beer and pool last night. They are both very nice and interesting in real life. We went to two bars that I’ve never been to but have no excuse for not going to because they’ve been around forever. We started at the Connecticut Yankee to watch the end of the Giants/Astros game. It’s probably the least annoying sports bar in the City. It’s filled with more or less mellow locals who know their teams and aren’t out to out-dude each other. I think I’ve always avoided it because A) it’s a sports bar and B) I hate the word Connecticut.

We then went to Sadie’s Flying Elephant which I’d go to a lot more if it were more convenient to my apartment. Two pool tables, friendly mixed/queer clientele, good juke box, and friendly bartenders. Plus I ran into a cabal of anti-genetic engineering organizers (all major organizations represented), who were planning their next moves over Guiness.

I had to work today, and I hadn’t eaten anything but freedom fries and bar popcorn so I called it quits around 10 PM. I walked to the bus stop. San Franciscans, is there any more lonely feeling than when you’re waiting for Muni, you just want to be home, and you see three in a row going the opposite direction? I did the mental math: I’m at 16th and Potrero, the 22s have to get to 22nd and 3rd, break and come back. About 20 minutes at best. At very best. It’s getting to be a cold night, it’s starting to rain, and the only warmth is the fake heat from the Boston Market neon sign.
