Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] jainabee I now know that Barry McGee, aka "Twist" is doing a show in NYC. He's an incredibly talented artist with a super sweet sister. He was one of SF's best graffiti artists in the '80 and '90s though he's doing different stuff now. Check out his work if you are there.

Did you see the Beautiful Losers show at the Yerba Buena Arts center in '04? It was a retrospective of contemporary artists from our generation, and included a ton of work by Barry and his sadly late wife Margaret Kilgallen (http://www.pbs.org/art21/artists/kilgallen/). (My husband went to school with Margaret and was a friend of hers. She's greatly missed, both in the art world and by all who knew her.) It was really resonant for my husband, in particular, who is a painter, and comes from that generation of creators. I ended up obsessed by some of the film shorts and also surprisingly enough, by the photography, since I'm not a big fan of representational art.

(As an aside, at Con Works, a big public art space here in Seattle, there is a super cool Twist mural. Every time I go there for one of our cheesy local arts shows, I end up standing in front of the mural intead and ogling it.)

I don't know either of them, but my husband went to school with Margaret.

I love her hobo art.

She's fine. I think just kinda stressed from school and work and needing at least a break from the internet. I don't wanna speak for her, but there's no drama or anything.
