What does Bill O'Reilly find so threatening about a monumental phallus?

I know I shouldn’t pay any attention to Bill O’Reilly. In fact, I’ve been working so much getting ready for the Thanksgiving food orgy that I didn’t even know about it until I saw it in springheel_jack’s LJ.

I will say this for him, the more I think about the fact that he picked Coit Tower, a relatively obscure monument with a WPA mural, the more I think about how much he planned what he was saying. The Golden Gate Bridge or the Transamerica Pyramid would have been the more obvious choices but even right-wingers would instinctively think it was fucked up if he cheered Al Queda on in blowing those up.

But does the Right understand that Coit Tower is a monument a fireman's penis? Official word is that it’s supposed to look like a fireman’s hose, but rumor has always been that it was meant to represent the "hose" of Lillian Coit’s fireman lover.

Bill O’Reilly is therefore not only attacking the heroes of 911 but calling for their symbolic emasculation! Surely this goes further than any nightmare version of evil feminism his addled brain could dream up.

Coit Tower has always been an incredible eyesore (to me) as tributes to phallis go but then I suppose that if you make a 'pretty' tribute to phallis then you're really going about it wrong and implying...er, other things.

I'm down in Orange County CA, but the icon I got by cropping a photo off their own site, which is the hilariously named http://www.golamers.com/ . I haven't seem them locally, only when I was out on the road somewhere.

There had been a "lamerbus" graphic going around on my irc network for years so I felt it was necessary to iconify it.
