For what it's worth, I'll be voting [livejournal.com profile] jette.

She's an awesome person on LJ and irl. She's raised children so she can deal with anything the LJ community can throw at her. She lives close enough to the Russian part of SF that she will know how to deal with LJ's owners. And the very first time I met her she came bearing mixed drinks!

Seriously though, she wants to be on the advisory board and she wants to do what she can. I think [livejournal.com profile] jette understands the positive things that online communities can do. She's been on LJ longer than me and I trust her to do as good a job as anyone possibly can on that stacked deck of a group she's running for.

Voting is here

Do you think the advisory board is anything other than a PR stunt that gets LJ some "cover" and reflected authenticity/prestige from the board members? The board has no authority, right? and no power over LJ decisions? or is there more to it than it seems?

It looks like something people who mean well would get sucked into with no guarantee that any effort they put in will ever show results, while in the meantime LJ gets to look good by having this group of people around without ever having to listen to them. They can pacify the user community but not actually affect LJ decisions.

Wasn't LJ's first move after the Board was set up to get rid of unpaid new user accounts without consulting the board or the members? Something that pissed off a lot of LJ-ers and that the board would likely have had an opinion on..

I dunno maybe I'm too cynical. I would like to know what you think though.

well I agree with almost all your points. but if [livejournal.com profile] jette wants to run, I'll vote for her. I figure it can't really hurt.
