I'd be closer to every day except for school -- I'm burning up my face-pushed-up-against-computer time there these days. Trying to change that, though!

Honestly, it's every couple of hours when I'm working (or 'working').

Ha ha. me too. sometimes I don't check at all on the weekends, though.

Unless it's exceptionally busy at work, I follow LJ Monday through Friday and often skip the weekends.

I still read it, but it feels less lively.

I'm glad you posted today, I thought you might be interested in this:

I read a small filter of my friends list every day, and if I have time/am bored I read the whole thing from time to time.

I almost never post anything here anymore, though. Lots of reasons why. I sort of switched my social center to Twitter a while ago, and I guess I got tired of the excessive reflection I used to engage in. I still enjoy it from time to time though.

I'll be the minority & actually admit that, yup, I prefer Facebook & Twitter & have gleefully forsaken El Jay for such. I have the attention span of a gnat, dammit! Burst communication is my metier!

I keep up with my peeps who still post here. My presence is on Twitter, FB & Tumblr now, though.

My new job is pretty intense. So I never have a chance to look at internet sites I used to frequent 5 times a day.

It makes me sad to see the waning of LJ (apart from Russian LJ, I suppose). I use Twitter for work and despise it for being so superficial, and Facebook only serves to remind me that, despite what Walter Benjamin said, boredom is not the threshold to great deeds, it's the threshold to quizzes about what Harry Potter character you most resemble.

I think LJ is an exemplar of an earlier era of interaction online, in which people wanted more depth, more length, more creativity & rumination. Now that's being sacrificed for short, glib thoughtlets barely distinguishable from spam. If current trends persist, online interaction in 10 years will consist of minute, bee-like buzzing messages alerting each other when we're nearing food sources.

Rage! Rage against the dying of the light!

Is that Walter Benjamin quote a response to Blaise Pascal's quot "All human evil comes from a single cause, man's inability to sit still in a room." Because that seems to me to be the more likely cause of Facebook Quizzes.

I haven't commented on LJ in at least two months, but I adore your little essaylet.

Thank you! It's a subject dear to my heart. After I moved to a remote part of the U.S. three years ago, LJ has become a much-needed means of contact with the outside world.

I don't post as remotely as often as I'd like to, split between Twitter, Facebook, my other internet home, and chatting with people directly via Gchat, but I do look at LJ every couple of hours while I'm working, and a couple times a night when I'm at home.

I skim on a regular (constant) basis and then come back and actually read posts and comments, well, four months later. :)
