[livejournal.com profile] smallstages and I got off MUNI at Church st. right before the closed the whole system down from flooding. Crazy!

p.s. the rain also killed my phone which was in my pocket. Don't bother calling for a couple of days until I can get a new one.

The sewer system design is the major problem. It is over a century old and not designed for such a big city. It is intimately involved with the rainwater overflow, unfortunately.

There was some damn insane rain tonight. It took me an hour and 45 minutes to get home. When I finally got off the freeway, the first four traffic lights I hit were completely out. They weren't even blinking. You had a six lane road intersecting various two and four lane roads where not everyone seemed to understand that you need to treat that as a four way stop. I'm amazed I didn't see any wrecks before I managed to get off that road and take another way home. Man, Channel 2 totally got this forecast wrong this morning.

Well, I feel better about my absurdly long wait on the K coming into the Embarcadero from the Caltrain station, then.

Another trick is to take the phone, open it up as much as possible, and put it in a bin of dry rice. Rice absorbs moisture like crazy.

I think I like that trick better - you don't have to worry about condensation on/in the phone when you take it out of the freezer.

The impotent cautionary cones on both landings are kind of endearing. It's like the management threw up their hands and said, "You're on your own, peeps!"

I'm kind of bemused by the whole "evacuate the station due to flooding" thing - sure, OK, go outside into the pouring rain where your situation will be much improved!

Wow, that manages to simultaneously be kinda neato and kind of a drag all at the same time. Learning heavily toward the "neato" side.
