Hello there,
I just spent all morning cleaning up a long article about dolphin fetishists that I’m submitting for publication. No energy left for a separate LJ entry, but I do have a few things to announce.
Here goes:
-- In my entry about the SFPD indictments I put the Chief’s salary at "well-over $100,000". I managed to find out the Chief’s actual salary: $209,000 plus full city benefits. Which he continues to collect despite being indicted for felony conspiracy charges. He approved the transfer of officers who wanted to investigate the three cops who beat up a couple of guys for their steak fajitas.
What is really great about all of this is that it seems like the Grand Jury indicted the higher-ups despite the DA advising them not to. I love San Francisco. Go citizens!
--Two of SF’s best bands are touring together. The Aislers Set and The Quails are very different from each other, but both worth seeing. They are also some of the friendliest, nicest band members anywhere. The Aislers Set is jangly, happy, and a little surfy while the Quails are more Gang of Four-esque political "post-punk". People insist on comparing them to Sleater-Kinney but I think that’s kinda ridiculous. They have an incredibly talented bass player for one thing.
If you include Erase Errata, can any city match those three relatively unknown bands with punk backgrounds? Well maybe, but I guess I probably wouldn’t know.
-- One of my favorite movies ever is playing at this month’s After School Special. Over The Edge is a teen rebel classic from the ‘’70s. It’s also Matt Dillon’s first real role. It will make you pull out those old Cheap Trick records even if you no longer have a turntable.
"Tuesday, March 18 at El Rio. Film @ 8pm, acne-inducing DJ @ 7:30pm.
$2 margaritas -NO COVER. Your hosts The Jimmys will provide a free drink for any boy wearing a half-top."
-- And since I’m plugging events, I should mention my old friends’ club at 26 Mix. "For those of you attracted to the dance floor", Coed Magnetic is Thursday March 13 and every 2nd Thursday of the month:
"COED MAGNETIC A same sexx discotheque featuring nasti nu wave, hott hip hop, trashi rock, electro funkee, crisco-disco and hi-nrg classix with dj's bodystocking, dm feelings, betty bon bons & passe passe and projections by jill r. This month: cash prize for best simulated orgasm at midnite!." 9pm-2am - Free before 10, $3 after, 21 & up, sorry kids.
You gotta love dance clubs put on by ex-punks!
-- I’ll probably put the dolphin article someday. Or maybe I’ll put it out as a separate zine.
