Rainbow Grocery Cooperative has just voted to close on the business day (m-f)* following the start of war on Iraq. Please spread the word so that no one tries to go shopping that day. It will not be a day for shopping or working.

Don’t know if people heard about yesterday’s attempt to shut down the Pacific Stock Exchange which included the former President of the Pacific Exchange. It’s promised as a small taste of what will happen the business day after a new war on Iraq starts. More info for those plans can be found here

*yes, Rainbow is open 7 days a week. But the business day after is when the protests are scheduled. See actagainstwar.org link above.

It's heartening to see even older, conservative people in NYC wearing large "don't get Bushwhacked" buttons and attending the marches. I love how Bush keeps saying that the protesters "aren't representative of mainstream public opinion." Sure, maybe not in Kansas, buddy...*snort*

howdy, neighbor

After reading your ultra-witty slob-on-slob action post on PQ I checked out your LJ and noted that we have a random political filmmaker person in common. The night of the last protest, our paths must have unknowingly crossed at the Clift:

The freakiest part of my evening was driving one of the production's SUVs from the Financial District down Market Street to the Clift. By the time we got to the 7th St. block (where all the renegade protesting was happening) I was shitting myself after having watched the punks throw rocks at the Starbucks and chuck a trash can through a cop car window. I was positive that we in the car were going to get jumped. What would I say? "But it's Michael Moore's SUV! I swear!"

Like that would have helped.

Anyway, nothing happened. But I thought it was funny and neat that we had that whole video thing in common. Boom!
