I apologize to regular readers that I haven't had the time or energy to write a real entry in awhile. Soon, I promise.

Walking to work today, I saw that someone had graffitied, in thick, black junkie scrawl, "Fuck Matt Gonzalez" along many different billboards, mailboxes, and street signs from lower Duboce to 13th and South Van Ness. I actually giggled at the placement on Valencia under the anti Halloween-drinking ad with the drag cop saying "No Booze, No Bashing, No Bad Costumes, Fuck Matt Gonzalez!" I had to admit that showed a tad of creativity.

Weirdly though, Gonzalez's Mission District campaign headquarters, which was directly in the path, was completely untouched. The campaign headquarters was dark and empty this morning too. I bet Matt knows how to throw a victory party.

I forgot all about the graffiti until I came upon it again on the way home from work. But just as I passed the first "Fuck Matt!" a truck pulled out of the electrical supply parking lot. It was a flatbed with huge Newsom signs on both sides. The side I could see had everything but Gavin Newsom crossed out but with a big "Fuck" written above it. The truck turned the corner and I saw it just had a big swastika drawn over the poster with "Gavin is a Nazi" written in smaller letters.

It’ll be a fun month.

*In the course of reading Gavin’s website, I found out that not only did we go to high school together, but he was born just 5 days before I was. [livejournal.com profile] ctrhotpink was checking out her old yearbook yesterday and saw that on the "Senior Superlatives" page where Gavin was voted "Most GQ", I was voted "Most Liberal". Maybe I should be running against him in 2007.

Okay, my Matty is cracking me up right now.

What The Fuck is this portrait supposed to represent? The background is like... a halo, or a daisy, or an orange? St. Vitamin C?

I think it's an updated SLA logo. "Smash the fascist insect that preys upon the people! Vote for Matt!"

It's not that Matt doesn't wash his hair (it's actually way too shiny for my taste), but that he doesn't wipe shave his upper lip. At least Tom has that manly all-over shadow thing. And Gavin? Well, he just looks like the kind of preppy dork you want to bend over and shove your dick in.

Oops, that was probably more than you wanted to know about me.

It's all right

I keep imagining Matt reaming Gavin a new one... like, in the locker room after a lacrosse match or something.

I can't believe Tom and Angela didn't endorse Matt. (I also love how everyone talks about them on a first name basis.) However, I took this as evidence that Tom was hurt by Matt's constant undercutting of him, so I decided this in my loyalty to Tom: if I ever see Matt Gonzales at Wilbur Hot Springs, I'm not going to respectfully turn my eyes from his private parts like I did with Tom. I'm scrutinizing that package.

The first name thing is funny. but then I realized I've actually met Gavin, Tom and Matt. I usually refer to the women candidates by their full names or for Angela Alioto I use "The Heart".

I've actually heard some rather nasty campaign gossip that I am not gonna repeat here. Because a. I don't know if it's true and b. all campaigns are nasty. I'll tell you in person. I think they'll endorse him in the end.

I can believe it. Party loyalty is a very powerful force in electoral politics, which is why "left" Democrats, especially in local politics, most often end up serving as political cover for their center-right counterparts who dominate the party nationally. (Not that I would vote for Matt Gonzales, or any Green, either. They are for me quite literally a boss's party.)

the suspense is killing me

Thanks, Slipkid. I found a website for my high school and now I'm thouroughly depressed.* The one thing Gavin and I have in common, besides being Libras, is that neither of us updates our alumni information. Most alumni info was updated during the dotcom boom and everyone is a "software designer". Self-reporting is a wonderful thing.

*my personal fave was a classmate who I can't remember at all (because after all, it was a large public school) who, at age 33, is the president of the Washington State Young Republicans or something like that.

I went to my 10 year high school reunion a, uh while back, and the things that horrified me the most were 1) how many people still lived in Spokane, apparently by choice, 2) how many kids some of the people had, and 3) just how many women put down their hobby as "scrapbooking". Over half! I swear! I know I have many biases against my hometown, and obviously some against scrapbooking...but scrapbooking in Spokane sounds like hell to me. Far better to be a software designer, however temporary.

But then again...isn't blogging scrapbooking for the computer savvy?

Scrapbooking is everywhere now. It's being touted as a recessionary trend. I should say that out of a class of 450-500 only about 15-20 actually filled out any info. maybe that's why it's especially depressing. Those were probably the computer savvy ones too.

One got married at Burning Man!

That's it. It's settled. If I ever form a band I'm going to call it Scrapbooking In Spokane.

Gordon! You're so liberal!

I was embarrassed about that even at the time, but the categories weren't changeable. "I'm not a liberal. I want to smash the whole fucking system, man." As a joke, me, my friend Rachael who I've written about, and a couple others crashed the "Young Democrat Club" photo for the yearbook with a "Radical Socialist Wing" sign. but they airbrushed it so we look like the other lap dogs and boot-lickers. Another big embarrassment at the time.
