Work this time of year makes talking to non-grocery workers a little alienating. Most people are busy with looking forward to or dreading their upcoming holiday, but starting to ease off and get ready for a little work break. How was my weekend? It was great if one can call it a weekend when one works both days.

I’m not complaining. I like it busy. Plus I had my full-on yearly buyer stress on Friday of looking at the cooler, stacked floor to ceiling with cheeses of varying perishability and thinking, like I do every year, "I fucked up. We can’t sell all of this." Luckily by now I know I think that every year so I try not to pay attention to myself when I get that way.

And I love that the gawths have started encouraging dress up days around the stressful times of year and that [livejournal.com profile] anarqueso loans me her derby hat so I can look distinguished and grey. One co-worker took one look at me and asked , "Where is the lactose –free ultra violence milk?" * Another asked after my missing cod piece.

I had to thank a co-worker for dressing like my teenage punk rock girl fantasies come to life but I won’t go into details. Another co-worker said, "I’m gonna wear a tie more often. People keep giving me their phone numbers."

As for the cheese department well, did you guys see "Grizzly Man"? Here’s the last thing the vegan saw**

*What did they call milk in that movie?
**oh, just kidding. And I know [livejournal.com profile] dairryiere posted this already but I love it too much not to do it myself.

Well, that meme is going around with people asking other folks to post pictures of themselves. I realized I hadn't done a photo post in awhile so I uploaded one of my personal faves. And seconds after I did, I say [livejournal.com profile] susannochka also posted a great picture of human/goat appreciation.

So go ahead, post a picture of yourself in the comments. If you are with an animal, even better. Here's mine (from 1997?):

I call it "Goat Empathy". It was taken by [livejournal.com profile] jactitation.

[livejournal.com profile] dairryiere is too shy to post this but that's what I'm here for.

I meant to post this before I left town.

Go at it! Post your yearbook photos in a comment below. C'mon, don't be bashful.

Since I already posted my senior picture, here is my pic from 1982, right before I cut off my hair the first time. It has never been this long since.

Here are some more trip pictures from our favorite stop, The Porter Sculpture Park

The steer sculpture is made out of railroad parts and is 65 ft tall.

The carousel at The House on the Rock. I had no flash or tripod so I had to use those old photo lab skills I thought had atrophied. The three photo geeks on my list might care, so I'll tell you that I used my Pentax P3 propped up on [livejournal.com profile] prof_southbay's bag in self-timer mode and the longest exposure possible.

Here ya go. I wish it had been chaps and a vest too. But the Jolly Green Giant was never really known for his fashion sense. I dare someone to dress like this for Folsom.

I just found one of my favorite work pictures so I'll share it with you, Dear Readers. This is [livejournal.com profile] dairryiere and I documenting another moldy pice of Rumiano (Willow Maid) Dry Jack. Please note it is not the vastly superior Vella Dry Jack. I'm flying the "Cheese Pride" jacket that Dairryiere hand-sewed while she holds the moldy mess of jack.

Feel free to comment with any photo that is a favorite of yours, cheese-related or not that you love despite not looking that great. Amuse me while everyone else is Priding it up or dealing with their hangovers.

I’ve neglected the photo posts for awhile now. I think it’s time for a new one, don’t you?

Please post photos of you at work! Old job, embarrassing job, current job, whatever looks good. Or bad.

I could do cheese but I’m gonna choose to go back in time a little instead.

That’s me as a one-hour photo lab tech

But you’ll have to go behind the cut to see me at my most embarrassing job ever! )

I know I used this one as a reply to a comment last week, but it’s too good not to use as a start for a participatory photo post. As [livejournal.com profile] superchones pointed out, the fact that it’s taken in a snowbank makes it a true classic What’s whiter than a white guy in a white Malcolm X shirt giving a thumbs-up in a snowbank?

Please post your political t-shirt photos below

Here’s a pic of us from 1997.

Gordon & Kyle '97

Actually [livejournal.com profile] psoup sent me that one so I’m sure you’re seen it. and probably like it. We look like a very cute couple who dye each other’s hair.

However, this collection might make you regret working with me at the photo lab )

This photo post them is dedicated to [livejournal.com profile] tlacuiloliztli. I didn’t have teddy bears, but I think this comes close, at least spiritually.

ratbday

This photo was taken at the SPCA office at the mall where I worked in a photo lab. It was the rat’s birthday. No one thought he would survive that long after the horrible accident. But he believed in himself. He overcame his injuries. He worked through the pain of physical therapy and the emotional pain of mourning his lost family and friends. Though suspicious, he let the humans feed him until he could feed himself. He liked cookies. He did survive. At least, until he didn’t.

Please post your anthropomorphic animal photos and tell a short little story about it. Thank you.

ok, I'm working on some real posts. But what future photo post themes would you like to see in the future? I worked in a photo lab for years so I probably have a picture to fit any theme.
gordonzola: (Default)
Well, I don’t know when I’ll get a chance to write. Maybe tomorrow morning. Maybe Sunday if I don’t have to work. To tide you over, let’s have another photo post!

This theme is "you in a crowd". Please post a photo too. It can be a much, much smaller crowd than the one I’m posting, but I love this photo.

My brother took this shot, that I just happen to be in, at the Rock Against Racism/Rock Against Reagan protest show at the 1984 Democratic Convention. You can read about that day here.

Can you find me? (edited: I guess you can find me! )
gordonzola: (Default)
Ok people, time to show off your "official" photos. First off, they don’t really have to be official. The one I’m posting below was taken (by [livejournal.com profile] obliviot) for a passport shoot, but I didn’t use it. It certainly reflects the time it was taken in 1992. Bad goatee? Check. Flannel shirt? Uh huh. Malcolm X shirt? You bet (You can see just a little of Malcolm’s hair poking out). Dangly earring? Oh yeah. Bad haircut I’m trying to spike up a little? Not working. Paleness and bags under my eyes from too many hours spent printing photos? Every day.

I can’t find the one I really wanted to use which was my high school photo from 1982. It’s the last photo taken of me with long hair. And I’m wearing a Stranglers t-shirt. It’s cutely awful as opposed to awfully cute. I’m still looking and I’m sure I’ll find it soon.

Please post your "official" photo below, interpreting that however you want. School photos, ID cards, Driver’s licences, passport photos, bus passes… whatever.

Also let me mention that I got a concerned e-mail worrying about people revealing too much information for the interworld in response to my new photo post. This is good advice. I hadn’t thought that people might actually put up their whole ID cards with sensitive license #’s, addresses etc. Be careful out there. Don’t be a victim.

(I’m enjoying this feature of my LJ. The next theme will be you in a crowd. Get your scanners ready. We’ll do that next week.)

Me in 1992 )
gordonzola: (Default)
Ok, get ready. Later in the week I’m going to do another photo entry, this time with the them of "official photos". Passports, Driver’s Licenses, student Ids, bus passes … whatever you feel qualifies. I’m giving you all notice so you can scan them. No excuses this time. Put don't post 'em yet, just get ready.

By the way, after putting up a picture that I really like last week, I will be putting up a picture that I really hate. It only seems fair.

And, in case you missed it, someone took my innocent entry of earlier today and filthied it up. Yes, interactive walk-in cooler cheese porn, your time has finally come.
gordonzola: (Default)
I'm really enjoying the photo memes going on out there. Among my firends it started with [livejournal.com profile] girlswirlzine (and actually the others are locked entries).

For mine, I want you to post a picture in my comment section of you being a high school poseur. I know this might be easier for you goths than you others, but give it a try. Explain the context if necessary please. Give a date if you are willing. (btw, this photo-hosting site is great though it hides the code you need in the "all sizes" section after you upload the pics) (thanks [livejournal.com profile] gwenzilla for the tip.)

Here's mine: envisioning a bright future for the dictatorship of the proletariat. Taken sometime in 1985.
