I'm really enjoying the photo memes going on out there. Among my firends it started with [livejournal.com profile] girlswirlzine (and actually the others are locked entries).

For mine, I want you to post a picture in my comment section of you being a high school poseur. I know this might be easier for you goths than you others, but give it a try. Explain the context if necessary please. Give a date if you are willing. (btw, this photo-hosting site is great though it hides the code you need in the "all sizes" section after you upload the pics) (thanks [livejournal.com profile] gwenzilla for the tip.)

Here's mine: envisioning a bright future for the dictatorship of the proletariat. Taken sometime in 1985.

OK, I didn't actually go to the concert advertised on the T-shirt. My parents wouldn't let me roadtrip up to Omaha for it. However, nearly everyone else in my class went (there were only 12 of us). They brought me a T-shirt out of pity!

This is, I believe, 1994. I'm 14 and in 9th grade. I did not know how to roller blade. I was, however, a huge fan of figure skating on television, so I'd requested a pair of roller blades for Christmas (there was no ice skating--I lived in Florida). I had just spent the afternoon pushing myself up and down the street in front my house using a broom stick like a cane. That's about as advanced as I ever got. I'm wearing my Micky Mouse shirt from the Disney Store, and I think that's a Loony Tunes hat turned backwards on my head. I'm wearing braces, and they are likely covered in bands in colors that reflected the season.

I couldn't even if I wanted to. I studiously avoided having my picture taken between my Bar Mitzvah and the age of sixteen, at which latter point I was prematurely in college. In the interim, I had allowed my hair to grow out all stringy in a very grunge rock wannabe fashion, and then had it cut short again to look very stylishly faggy. Yet since there's no photographic evidence, no one who knows me can believe I ever had long hair.

the artist formerly known as teabee, my cousin (the one who now lives in palo alto) and me, the brave. this was a road trip tea and i took from georgia to south carolina to visit my cousin. it might have been for her high school graduation, which would have meant it was after our first year of college, 1993. or it could have been the summer before. columbia, sc.

I wish I had a scanner so I could scan in one of the few photos of me over the age of 12. It's my 1988, 13 year old passport photo, and I look just like our scary neighbor down the street. She (and I) had wild, over done hair, sullen expressions, way too much dark blue eyeliner, an air of being hungover, and a sneer. Frankly, I look younger now at 29, even with the bumper crop of white hair I'm sporting.

All my high school pictures are at parent's house in New York. I don't think I have any regular pictures of me in high school anyway. I mean, probably the only pictures ever taken in high school were at my graduation -- 1995, which doesn't seem that interesting compared to all these people from the 80s anyway.

The two best pictures of me disappeared. One is from Disney on grad night. Unlike everyone else who had their picture taken at the beginning, we decided to wait until 5:00am. By that point, I'd been tripping for about 21 hours (a hit or two every 8 hours for 3 days) and had spent 6 hours running around Disney world in dress clothes. The other is of me passed out, wrapped in a fetal position around my whippet delivery device with about 50 used cartridges on the floor nearby.
