I can't believe that no one on my friendslist wrote about the meanest show in the history of televsion. I just caught the repeat of the finale of The WB's American Superstar. Oh my god.

Basically they were searching for the worst singer in America that thought they were the best singer in America. Painful. They even had a whole studio audience in on the joke cheering on, and trying not to whince at, the contestants.

How bad were they? Well, anyone out there who's heard me sing? It could have been me singing Bootylicious out there. Instant television classic.

Poseur!

wow, I thought you were down. Where's the hardened, cynical LJer who laughs at the humiliation of Mutton Busters and mocks the waterfall fuckers?

I only laugh at the pain of children and animals. The waterfall fucker I can mock, 'cause she's the other side of my molestation coin. I can also make fun of strippers, alcoholics, and cult members- like how it's ok for black people to refer to each other as "nigger."

heh. then I feel completely free mocking these folks as I truly have the worst singing voice in America! I want to be the next Superstar!

yes. but we should make sure to sing the do-do-do-do-do part for maximum embarrasment.

This is one of the many, many reasons why you're so damn cute.

I watched the season final of the swan out of morbid curiousity. I really have never seen 95% of these reality shows and have little interest. Th swan's appeal was the impending suicides... of course those wont happen for years.

Man, the interviews with the swans' husbands were the best. It was all some variation on, "Yeah, JoBeth isn't too pretty. And she isn't too smart, neither. She doesn't seem to have much self esteem." I'm fascinated by all these guys marrying women they thought were ugly and annoying. Maybe it's a midwestern thing.

And, OMG, the enormous horse teeth veneers they gave all those women- they all looked like they could strip the flesh from your bones.

see, the Swan was too much for me. I can take good old-fashioned meanness and laughing at the failings of other people. The low self esteem and self-delusion of the Swan, as well as the fact they were gonna get all cut up, made it too sad for me. Superstar was self-delusional in the opposite direction.

oh stimpy, please don't apologize for not watching TV. You can exempt yourself from any TV discussion just as I exempt myself from ones involving dreams.

As revealed here (http://www.wordiq.com/definition/Superstar_USA) and elsewhere, the particularly bizarre (I'll save the word sick for when I think about it more) thing about this is that in order to get a positive audience reaction to egg these poor souls on, the audience was told that the contestants were all terminally ill.

Gyson is bang on. Man is a bad animal.

Yeah, I was going to comment on the Make a Wish thing. I barely watched it because I felt bad for the singers. But the winner looked like Anna Nicole after too much Trimspa.

I feel so unhip. I really don't watch reality tv shows. If CSPAN coverage of the house and the senate is reality TV then I do.

I am a nerd in a bad, uncool way.

I did watch the season finale of the swan.

CSPAN is definitely a reality show. just the most depressing one ever aired, unfortunately.

I don't watch TV very often, but I had heard about this.
It's stupendously twisted.

Yeah, I had seen the previews for this show, and it just looked so painful and terrible that I tried not to think about it. Now that you mention it, though, it seems weird that no one else has.
