My trade show with the highest annoyance factor is in town. Yes, The Fancy Food Show. I will be doing nothing but schmoozing, eating cheese, and avoiding pesky sales reps for the next two days. I know I shouldn't complain, but just try and stop me. I already have stories to tell, just no time to write them yet.

I’m on a panel this year which gets me in for free. Unfortunately I fear I’m doing evil. My panel is called "Putting the Co-op back into co-opt" That doesn’t sound good, does it?

I hope that you post a photo of your panelist outfit on your journal.

Once I get my scanner working again I promise to post my high school and passport-ee photos. I've been enjoying your journal.

One of the guests in the hotel is doing the Fancy Food Show, I think. Some food show, anyhow. She'll be handing out samples of salmon. She gave me some Gummi Bears. Ahhh, work-love.

stop you? are you kidding? those of us who whine regularly wouldn't dream of it! in fact, we welcome the company. you'll make us feel more "normal" that way. ;^)

and i so can't wait to read about your panel discussion. ee-vil! ee-vil! ee-vil! (she chants, in her best imitation of the crowd in the arena, waiting for the lions to be unleashed on the defenseless slaves.)

Ahhh the food show to end all food shows... that means my aunt is in town. This means for the 900 year in a row she won't call me while she's in town cuz she's too busy schmoozing, eating and drinking. All at expensive restuarants around town that I can't afford and would love for her to pay for. DAMNIT!

Ahh well

if ya see my aunt trip her for me.

Mary??!! .......swoooon!.....

I like your food show whining. I thought you were calling it the Fancy Food show to make fun of it, but thats actually its name.

i don't know anything about it, but i hate that it's called "fancy". upscale event titles are usually coded and smug. this one's smug, i guess, but not coded.

Jesuchristo, that link is fucking hilarious. 87% of attendees have PURCHASING POWER -- that's you, G. And please god, go to some of those Focused Exhibits ® -- "Foodservice Spoken Here" sounds amazing.

I wish I could be there to hear you explain to these people that worker co-ops are successful because they share power, not because they co-opt their workers into THINKING they have any semblance of "power"™, through, perhaps, a nice Employee of the Week photo/altar.

Anyway, dude, whining, when well done and skillfully written, is among the most entertaining of journal genres. I can't wait.

How come you're not doing the "Pairing Beer and Cheese: a Guided Tasting" instead?

"The Cooperative Way: Applying Co-op Principles to Your Business" doesn't seem evil to me, but then again, I am not a communist.

I always wondered what they did with the registration form info. I never really looked at the website before. I HAVE PURCHASING POWER!

alas, I never go to those educational events. Until the one I spoke at today. Though I do have a favorite. The all-time best title: "My Job Tastes Good!"

From: [identity profile] gordonzola.livejournal.com
The woman who does that one, Lucy Saunders, is amazing at it and a professional beer writer. Actually, if you remember my Milwaukee posts, she was the one who organized that beer/cheese tasting too.

And my panel wasn't really evil or I wouldn't have done it. It's just that the Food Show has little natural, organic, or co-op prescence so in my worst moments I pictured an audience of corporate suits hearing my talk, interpreting it into their language, and writing down in their notes: "give employees the illusion of power-increase sales". Most of the language of the event is typically business-convention speak. That they wanted to do a co-op panel was a good enough reason for me to say yes, really. I was happy to support that impulse.
