-My spelling and punctuation, never good and getting worse since the development of tendonitis, are going to be really bad this week. My keyboard died and I’m using one that’s a good 1/3 smaller than I’m used to. My apologies in advance for indecipherable comments..
-I saw "Children of Men". Clive Owen is just so damn likeable. I enjoyed the sledgehammer-delivered Abu Ghraib references. I’ve loved Julianne Moore since "Safe", which would actually be an interesting movie to see again. I like that someone’s LJ friend referred to one of the characters as "Starhawk" in their review. Other than that, it was actually pretty slight. Dystopia has a hard time competing with reality these days.
--I have to go back to work tomorrow after a week off. Boo Hoo. The schmoozing starts right away with lots of visiting cheese folks in town for the Fancy Food Show.
--Next week you can see if I have any new ways to describe that show. I think my last 3-4 reviews of it were along the lines of "It was pretty much the same as last year…" Of course 2008 will be in San Diego so that’ll be different. I haven’t been there since high school.
--Did I mention that I saw
nihilistic_kid and
final_girl read last week? Nick’s new book Under My Roof seems hilarious. I would have bought it if I could have found it at the store (I had to leave early). But I will, oh, I will. Daphne was great too even if I couldn’t stay for her whole reading. She was reading as yet unpublished work. I’ll plug her when it’s appropriate. Err, probably there’s better wording for that.
--I really do hate to say I told you so in this case. Forgive me, for this one moment, for agreeing with John McCain, ""If these people are serious… then they should vote to cut off… funding…. Emotional disapproval, I view as purely a political ploy."
