Weirdest LJ Coincidence
An LJ friend, and someone who I became outside-of-internet friends with this year ,was researching the weird homophobic church she grew up in and my Halloween post was one of the first hits. That church planned a big exorcism of the gays in San Francisco and the protest surrounding it made for the most fun Halloween ever
Favorite Public LJ Post of the Year
I had forgotten all about this until I stumbled on a link in my journal. It made me laugh all over again. I didn’t really do any research on this. Maybe next year I’ll save entries as I go along. But for this year, I present
crusherrrr’s Gay History Part 1 and Gay History Part 2
Please note: You should also check out the comments in this post for what other folks thought were great entries or link your own.
Most Unexpected Thing that happened to me
I got on a jury. One post script to all those entries I made: it turns out that one of the junior lawyers who never spoke was friend of a co-worker of mine. After the trial, he told her, "I knew we’d do OK once we got the Rainbow guy on the jury." And he was right, I was one of two pushing for a bigger settlement.
Then I went home and upped my car insurance.
Best Smell Lost
The Hostess Factory near my work closed down this year. My favorite San Francisco smell was on the day they made the raspberry-filled donuts. Sweet, sugary, doughy, raspberry everywhere! We could smell it from the Rainbow loading lock. This might be one of my biggest San Francisco disappointments this year.
Best moment at Zeitgeist
The Wednesday before Thanksgiving, after a crazy 12 hour shift on our then-busiest day ever, braving the elements with
anarqueso,
tuliphead, and a co-worker with no LJ. We brought umbrellas to hold and trash bags to sit on and refused to be denied our outdoor alcohol. We actually impressed the staff which is hard to do. The 6 hour shift I pulled there with
defenestr8r a couple co-workers and four random cheese reps was a close second.
Best Thing that I will be Rightfully Mocked For
I won my last 7 match-ups to take my fantasy football league crown, destroying
hotcrab in the finale. I am the Champion of Pirate Bay!
Best New Title at Work
Food Safety Manager. Yes, the State of California gave it to me so I am now the only manager in the whole store! Hahahaha! I mean, unless you’re an irate customer or something.
Deaths of Famous and Famous-ish People I didn’t know
Ann Calvello – I think watching the Bay Bombers as a kid was what got me into tough, mean girls.
Desmond Dekker – It’s not a competition but I listened to a lot more Desmond Dekker than James Brown. Except in samples of course.
Dirk Dirksen – The SF punk scene wouldn’t have been the same without him
Deaths of People I Knew
Johnny Caplan – Artist and sweetheart with a mean sense of humor. Cancer.
Laura Trent – Organic farmer and friend/acquaintance since 1990 or so. Suicide.
Valerie Henderson -Cheese rep who I actually never met personally but talked to on the phone for 10 years. Murdered in Bayview.
Most Un-shocking Death
The House of Failure Power Strip
My favorite entry of mine for the year. I didn’t want to end this on a depressing note.
