Oooooh, another good suggestion. Let's do two!

The theme is the title. C'mon dig 'em out! Non-US folks can use "fucked up and under 21" as a guideline.

Personally, I have so many to choose from that it hurt to narrow it down.

This is an awesome shot. Age 20 at a July 4 parade. Only a few months from legality. Generic beer and America's b-day. We were making a ("Repo Man"-style) statement.

Drunk and 18 = suave! (We were just friends people. Sheeesh)

just so you don't think I'm glamorizing teen alcoholism. It worked for me, but it's not for everyone.

so first one - i am drunk, stoned, 16, and in chicago with my 15yr old pal clare(who was more much more worldly than i)

Second one. 18. freshman year of college. in vet pal's dorm room. like the spray paint? she did it herself in a drunken rage the night before.

Apparently I was just waiting for Myspace to happen so I could take lots of internet disease pictures. Alas, I had 15 years to wait...

I'm 20 in this picture, and probably high. That whole evening is kind of a blur, including the photos.

Well, I don't have any pictures of me wasted and underage (someone else holds all the pictures), but here's a shot of the aftermath.
I was 19? 20? something like that.

I'm not technically underage in these photos because I was in Europe and eighteen. I didn't have long to wait on my return to the legal drinking age in Ontario (19). I don't think I have any photos of me drinking illegally because I probably only drank illegally twice or thrice. I didn't really get a taste for booze until I was nineteen, halfway to twenty.

Belgium 1988

What I like about this photo is you can see from the serving trays behind me that we are drinking Stella Artois, which appears to be the new It Beer, but is, in fact, the Belgian Labbatt's Blue, which is the Canadian, uh, Budweiser, maybe?

After

Le Notger Juillet 1988

This was my last night in the country. My favourite thing about this picture is the whisker burn all over my chin, which I got from neither of these two guys, who are both named Emmanuel, but from a third guy named Emmanuel I'd been with the night before. Oh alcohol, how different my high school years could have been if I'd succumbed to your charms sooner.

omg, I've never met an Emmanuel. that's crazy.

I got snowed in in upstate NY one winter for a few days. we went to the store right befoire it hit and bought potatoes, water, and two cases of Labatt's Blue. It will always be special to me.

maybe we didn't buy water. that's the Californian/earthquake prepared person in me, isn't it?

pouring
I was a late bloomer, and my only underage drinking picture is no longer with me. This, however, is one of my favorite drinking pictures ever, if only because a Smurf is pouring alcohol straight down my throat

Which later that night lead to me blowing fireballs with absinthe.

I got what looked like it was supposed to be a video message, from you, but it was just like 19 seconds of blank. I was going to call you to be like WTF (imagine that! even though I hate talking on the phone!) but I was in the car with a friend who accused me of loving you more than her, so you know how that goes. We danced to really bad synthesized 80s hits covers instead.

What did I miss? Can you resend it?

XO.

ha. the second two shots are taken with a DISC camera. Smallest negs/worst resolution ever! great for drunken teens.

and it's too bad because the first two shots could start a whole subset of a participatory photo post with small, wasted, underage Jewish girls

Sadly, my camera back then was a really nice secondhand Minolta, but it was bulky and I didn't exactly bring it to parties (I still have it, but I don't use it for much the same reason). There might be a few pictures of me wasted on school trips somewhere, but they're probably at my folks' place.

This is the hotly anticipated one of me in a very chemically altered state, about to get hitched to a guy best described as "Freddie Krueger as a drag queen." He is the owner of the hand with the "Jesus saves" tattoo that's draped around my neck. Jesus was the name of the best coke he ever smoked. It was the summer of 1995 and Colt 45 was on sale for 99 cents a quart.

This is my favorite cousin Annie and me, very high, trying to look normal so we can get the hell out of the house, while my mom snaps a chistmas pic. I'm probably nineteen. Note the choke chain around the neck and the tiny bit of Tribe 8 shirt peeking from under the bomber.

And, a decade later, still trashed but with much better hair, glasses and fashion sense:

This one also demonstrates how Sri Lankans, Koreans and Ndns all get the bright red alcohol flush. Especially from champers.

Hey Gordon! I haven't checked in with you in ages, so imagine my shock to find a photo of me here. What a great, great shot. What ever happened to generic beer anyhow? And how did you possibly remember that we were 20?

I remember we were 20 because I worked at the photo lab and have photo albums for every year of that period and because it was July 4 we know you were only a couple weeks shy of 21.

I thought twice about posting that photo. But it's so great even if for some reason you were rocking a non-ironic mullet. Your hair historically has been much better than that. Besides, it went great with my underage-drinking-with-Jews theme.

Miss you. you ever gonna visit the Bay again?

Don't worry about posting the photo. I was the idiot who wore it that way, I deserve it.

I'll definitely let you know next time I come south. No plans in the works, but that can be changed. Got any plans to come north? You know I'm in Bellingham, WA now, right?
