I will leave you with some non-cheese images that summed up Austin.

My agent may not like this, but I think my next book may be about hotel carpets. They fascinate me

People... how come no one told me the largest colony of bats in North America? In Austin? Under a downtown bridge? And they come out at the same time every day like the Disneyland Electrical Parade or something?

Hey, if anyone out there reading usually gets my New Year's card, I must now admit failure. I just couldn't pull it off this year. I sent out a random few and a good 1/4 of those came back with bad addresses. I just don't think -- while rapidly approaching February -- it's a realistic goal anymore. Sorry.

I hate e-holiday cards, but hopefully these pictures I never posted on LJ will help ease the pain:

I'll try again next year.

I love this photo so much that I have to post it. It will definitely be my New Year's card photo but I couldn't wait. It was taken during our first annual International Workers Day beer hunt. I finished 4th.

Oh and what the heck. I haven't done a poll in months.

(Edit: This website for The Gits documentary provides a decent history of the band. Music starts right away.)

Oooooh, another good suggestion. Let's do two!

The theme is the title. C'mon dig 'em out! Non-US folks can use "fucked up and under 21" as a guideline.

Personally, I have so many to choose from that it hurt to narrow it down.

This is an awesome shot. Age 20 at a July 4 parade. Only a few months from legality. Generic beer and America's b-day. We were making a ("Repo Man"-style) statement.

Drunk and 18 = suave! (We were just friends people. Sheeesh)

just so you don't think I'm glamorizing teen alcoholism. It worked for me, but it's not for everyone.

When Halloween happens there are too many Halloween photos posted. It's hard to digest them all. So, in honor of me (and evidently [livejournal.com profile] literaticat) being home sick and bored, I am asking you to post your favorite halloween photo of yourself. As a kid, as an adult, heck even your fave of your kids... amuse me until my next Netflix comes.

My best Halloweens have been when I dressed in group themes. St Patrick's Day was the best but photos of that just look like we're American-born Irish on St Patrick's Day. If I get [livejournal.com profile] jactitation's permission, I will post the one of us dressed as space aliens but looking like rotting leftovers.

The photo below is from 1986. Our group theme was the '70s (though neither of the other guys pictures were part of that). I was an 8-track tape of Frampton Comes Alive which, if you lived though that time period, you know was everywhere. I hadn't finished my costume, but I had a wide piece of felt that went from shoulder to shoulder resting on my head to symbolize the "tape" part of the 8 track. I can't remember what everyone else was but we had a drag disco dancer and a Qualude. I remember being impressed that the Qualude person knew that their costume had to say "Lemon 714".

I copied the cover art myself from memory. Can you tell? while not identical, I think it captures the spirit of the original cover.
