I haven't forgotten you

I really have been ignoring this journal recently. It’s not personal. I miss my LJ interaction, the comment threads, the typos, the ill-advised statements, the meeting of new cheese friends…

I’ve just been so over-committed. As of today my responsibility for a work project that I’ve been working on for four years goes to someone else so there is some relief in sight. Of course, I already feel like this year is full: cheese trips, niece’s performances, my parents’ 50th anniversary… lots of stuff.

I just wanna say that I haven’t forgotten you. I, unfortunately have half-written entries on a variety of subjects that I haven’t had time to finish. I’m sure I’ll finish some soon. So stick around. I’m not abandoning you.

Coming soon:
Terroir bullshit (with an graphic illustration of dumbness)
Anti-racist feminism
Worker co-op vignettes from the last 15 years
“Those Darn White Kids” scanned from old “Pocho” zines (by request!)
More of my favorite forgotten albums

Feel free to suggest topics if you want. I will feel free to ignore them, but you never know.

I have no topic suggestions, just a request: a beautiful curly-haired cheese goddess at your store introduced me to corn cookies + gorgonzola dolcelatte yesterday (to make me feel better after she broke the news about the 34 Degrees marinated feta no longer being available); please tell her thank you from me and the half-dozen other people I forced to try it that afternoon. ;)

Is Terroir bullshit a bad experience with the wine store on Folsom St?

[identity profile] gordonzola.livejournal.com 2008-04-28 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
no, it's mis-use of that term for cheese. I have no experiences with the store, good or bad, though the name will tend to keep me away.

The wine store on Folsom St. is run by former staff from Chez Spencer, pleasant French stoners who sell vin biologique. They also sell a cheese plate for the people who come in to do wine tasting. So far, I have found it to be good (if egregiously overpriced) but I think they could only benefit from your advice.

Dude, I've always found the use of the term terroire w/r/t cheese to be kind of suspect, but I don't know enough about it to really know if it's common usage among people who know wtf is up. Anyway, I'd like to hear you talk about it.

Did you get up to any cheese adventures in Seattle?

[identity profile] gordonzola.livejournal.com 2008-04-29 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
it's ok for cheeses made in France.

for American cheeses it's totally suspect.

Thanks for that pleasant memory.

Ooooh! You have old issues of "Pocho"? I loved their online incarnation... my former assistant, who was Mexican, and I, used to laugh ourselves sick over it. Then he'd teach me elaborate but filthy jokes in Spanish, and I'd translate his Japanese videogame music for him.

It was a great way to fuck off when we didn't feel like working.

I lost many of the early ones unfortunately, but I have a couple hanging around. I can't believe those cartoons aren't online.

Speaking of forgotten...I realized that I don't have an e-mail address for you (wanted to invite you to our BBQ this past Saturday). Is the one on your user page the best one to reach you at?

my site was down for awhile, but gordon at gordonzola dot net should work.

I am absurdly excited about "Those Darn White Kids."

I'm doing it just for you!
