My favorite thing about Wisconsin is all the cheese crap everywhere. It’s like suddenly everyone can suddenly see what's going on in my head. Despite the disastrous “World’s Largest Cheese Box” that I visited a few years ago, I have forgiven the state of Wisconsin. I just refuse to drive miles out of my way for the attractions anymore.

And why would I when I can just be driving down the road and see things like this:

One must always stop at the Mars Cheese Castle. Someday I will have the courage to order a drink at the bar.

Paul, where’s Babe? And why are you holding the axe like that. I don’t like that look in your eye

And this will be the cover art for my emo album

But seriously, this is creepy, right?

That's a weak-ass Paul Bunyan! There's another one in front of a restaurant we used to eat at on the way home from vacations in Minocqua when I was a kid. Much manlier thighs.

This one may be skinnier, but I dare you to look in those eyes and not feel the crazy. I think I could talk to your Paul. Mine, that axe is coming for me as soon as I'm in range.

I've always wanted to take our local Muffler-Man/Paul-Bunyan and stick him in my yard, and during Pride festivities, give him a giant rainbow flag to hold.

Oh now, I don't think the visit to the cheese box was disastrous, it just wasn't what was advertised and was disappointing. If we hadn't visited the cheese box, we wouldn't have been able to see Bessie, the world's largest talking cow.

I do share your affinity for roadside art, though you knew that.

The mouse zombie carrying the cheese is creepy, though I love your emo album cover.

Do they make album covers anymore?

true, I had a good time. but my disappointment when I saw that the world's largest cheese replica was a box was quite acute.

Speaking of acute, that's a cute dog.

Yes, I recall your acute disappointment at the largest cheese replica box.

Ha! Thanks. I love my dog.

I think that must be psychotropic cheese.

I drove past that Mars Cheese Castle a few weeks ago, laughed, and invoked your name.

Thought you might like to know that.

Also, don't mess with Wisconsin, because pride is our secret ingredient:

haha. Cheese Pride, Cheese Visibility! has been our slogan ever since we got put in the back of the store when we moved. Someone should photoshop a pink triangle in place of the wedge.

Actually, [livejournal.com profile] craftypenguin is going to get a tattoo of this with a fist in lieu of the cheese wedge. Rock.

That Paul Bunyan in Janesville appears to be a recent addition. I have many a photo of me miliking that fiberglass cow but I don't recall ever seeing Paul there (and yeah, there are much better Pauls elsewhere in WI and MN).

If you didn't have a drink at the Mars Cheese Castle I take it you didn't have a brandy old fashioned at the Brat Stop, either, eh?

Ahh, the Mousehouse. That used to be a mandatory stop on any trip from my home in STP to my parents in southern Wisconsin. Until I bought my last car.. I bought it in WI and was driving it back home to MN. I made my stop at the mousehouse.. and the transmission died. Day 3 of ownership. Now I feel like the Mousehouse is cursed and I can't stop there, because if I do, a comet will fall on my current car.
But I love their mascot!

I'm going to be in the Birthplace of Velveeta in a couple of weeks, but I'll just miss their cheese festival.
