Black Sheep Dairy badly damaged.
Dec. 23rd, 2007 11:54 amWith so many folks traveling this is probably a bad time to post this, but during the severe storms in the Pacific Northwest a number of dairy farms were badly damaged. The hardest hit was Black Sheep Dairy, a small family sheep dairy in Washington State. Here are some pictures It's a good reminder of how hard it is to survive as a small-scale farmer in this day and age. And how vulnerable farmers always are to the elements.
The folks at Beecher's Cheese in Seattle have started a fund to help them rebuild. If you are making year-end donations, this is a good place to put some money, directly helping a small farm who could use your support. Just follow the link. (No paypal, sorry.)
You can also send checks to Beecher's...made out to Gregory Family Assistance Fund. Their address:
Beecher's Handmade Cheese, 104 Pike Street, Suite 200, Seattle, WA 98101 Attn: Ellen Gerber.
