Hey New(ish) people.

Especially during and since my RSI experience, I have been really bad about checking out the LJs of people who’ve "friended" me, especially those of you who never comment. So, if you care about such things, let me know who you are and how you found me. Don’t be shy now.

Thanks.

I found you through someone (I forget who) on my friendsfriends page. They mentioned that you had an interesting year-end review thingy up, and I was intrigued by that and your LJ name--'cause I am a bit of a turophile. ;) Read your journal, found it interesting and well-written and that you're of a similar politcal mind, and added you!

<-- What she said, to the letter. :)

Thanks. But you know what's interesting? Never once in almost 10 years of cheese work has anyone said "Turophile" to me in person. I think it's one of those words people like to write more than to say.

You're a friend of [livejournal.com profile] hammerhead, and I liked your posts, so I added you as a friend...

[identity profile] gordonzola.livejournal.com 2004-01-02 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really hate joggers, you know.

[identity profile] queerbychoice.livejournal.com 2004-01-02 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
Including me? I remember how I first heard of you, which was via [livejournal.com profile] donutgirl in reference to cheese, but that wasn't when I actually added you. I added you after being linked to your journal again via some other route, but I no longer remember what route it was. I went to your userinfo page just now to see if it reminded me, which it didn't, but it did cause me to discover the existence of the [livejournal.com profile] pro_scurvy community, which I am now completely enthralled by and am feeling a need to show to everyone I know.

Also, I've had RSI in my shoulders for the past 7 or 8 years, initiated by an un-ergonomically correct computer setup in college. The RSI never fully went away after the computer setup was corrected, but it's down to manageable levels these days.

[identity profile] gordonzola.livejournal.com 2004-01-02 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
yes, Pro-Scurvy brings folks together!

Luckily I was able to quickly stop my RSI from getting worse and, as of this moment, my arm is doing really good despite cutting the hardest cheeses known to humans today. So far so good. I'm thankful for responsible co-workers who pushed me not to push things.

[identity profile] teabee.livejournal.com 2004-01-02 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
i think you found me. but i'm commenting anyway, in fear of you deleting me.

[identity profile] gordonzola.livejournal.com 2004-01-02 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
My god. Tea, you are not new. You are not in danger of being deleted, and yes, I "friended" you originally. Stop the fear-mongering. There may be impressionable newbies out there.

I think you added me, though I was aware of your existence through your comments in our mutual friends' posts (including but not limited to: [livejournal.com profile] amarama, [livejournal.com profile] fattest, [livejournal.com profile] felicks, and [livejournal.com profile] tragicmulatta).

Embarrassing disclosure:
In fact, I had sneaked over here to read you a couple times, but I held off on the adding due to your celebrity. I was sort of relieved when you said hi and added me first.

[identity profile] gordonzola.livejournal.com 2004-01-02 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I held off on the adding due to your celebrity.

Oh my. If this is being a celebrity, those pop stars are right to whine.

How do you get "celebrity"? Is it from [livejournal.com profile] amarama? See, she likes to build me up so that she can attack with full vitriol and seem justified. I'm her LJ strawman.

"Celebrity" sheesh! I'm just sitting at home alone tapping on a keyboard instead of interacting with irl humans. I hope this isn't as good as it gets.

Spoonfeeding's one of my faves.

(lj user="spoonfeeding") if you want to know. but with those other things instead of parentheses.

I am one of [livejournal.com profile] stimps's sweeties and I found your journal when she said you were worth reading. And you are, and not least because you love cheese.

[livejournal.com profile] ayun recommended you highly. i find that you go well with a nice pinot noir, preferably a Napa or Sonoma.

hi. i don't remember why i added you a while ago, but it was because 1) i buy food at rainbow at least once a week and 2) i am fond of your writing, it frequently makes me feel like there is hope for sf after all. some people disagree, but me, i like to be an optimist. AND 3) your name. it's funny.

so will you clear something up for me? are you M or F? once in a while, i look over at the cheese section between madly dodging sunday shoppers and wonder which one is gordonzola...

my bets are that you are M but my boyfriend thinks you're a F.

???

[identity profile] gordonzola.livejournal.com 2004-01-04 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee hee. Glad I could give you hope for SF. I'm actually working on some SF specific stuff right now so try and hang on.

Just a gender-binary question! I'm the guy in the department without facial hair. I did think about describing myself as a random co-worker because it would probably make a good entry, but I just couldn't do it to you. I rarely work sundays though.

Haven't friended you yet...

[identity profile] hawaiianrose.livejournal.com 2004-01-05 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't added you as a friend yet but I was going to ask if you mind... I think I stumbled across your journal through anarqueso's . I don't live anywhere near Ca, in fact I live in Nashville TN, but I've been there once and just generally appreciate your writing.

please "friend" away. I accept non-californians. and thanks for the compliments.

[identity profile] structurefall.livejournal.com 2004-01-05 10:01 am (UTC)(link)
horf.

hi, i'm eric. found you because [livejournal.com profile] jwz pointed you out to me after i mentioned that i was getting in to cheese. a great cheese and wine place opened right near my house in alameda, and the owner has been talking to me about my purchases and helping me out a lot.

i had some st. andres at liaison bistro in berkeley the other day, and it ruled. also some explorateur. those and the chevre coated with spices on the outside are some of my favorites right now. haven't really gotten to much outside of soft cheeses yet.

er, about me: i play in a bunch of industrial bands. i have a boring job. i have spikey hair, and my girlfriend makes horror films. that's about it.

[identity profile] gordonzola.livejournal.com 2004-01-05 10:20 am (UTC)(link)
If you liked st andre (I'm assuming it is the french triple cream not the local semi-soft sheep san Andreas or the Italian aged cow St Andrea) you should try Explorateur, Pave du Morin, Jean Grogne or Pierre Robert. they are similar, but better, cheeses that in [livejournal.com profile] anarqueso's words, "kick St Andre's ass. Gratte Paille is also in that category but avoid it right now because it's been sitting in a warehouse too long and the distributor is dumping it cheap.

[identity profile] effluvia.livejournal.com 2004-01-05 11:38 am (UTC)(link)
I asked my friends list to recommend some fresh meat, and someone recommended you. Muy bueno.

I like it when people talk about San Francisco. I was there but night before last.

Bored and did an interests search on Linton Kwesi Johnson, and yours was the first journal I found that actually had content. And it's good content, too. I'm probably just passing through; hope you don't mind.

RSI sucks - I hope you've got decent coping strategies. My partner couldn't work for months because of it. Now she's got a less technical job, things are much better.

[identity profile] gordonzola.livejournal.com 2004-01-06 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
no problem, stay as long as you want. Any friend of LKJ ...

My RSI is much better. It needed rest mostly. Now I can recognize it coming on much more quickly.
