Date: 2004-05-22 10:54 am (UTC)of course, our annual "conferences" are more focussed on the racing, partying, and extended family reunion part of the event, and not so much the "getting things done" portion, despite some of our attempts. im even starting to slack off at this point, cause its just gotten too frustrating to deal with a bunch of people who would rather get drunk and ride around than actually sit down and try to organize something that could benefit all of us - and then complain all year of the things that an organized body could help with.
people are starting to up and just start their own little projects out of sheer need to do *something*, though - i started messengers.org well-nigh 10 years ago, and now weve also got a startup emergency fund to help messengers who have been injured on the job and dont have insurance, or even, in many cases, workers comp. right now someones also starting up a media monitoring organization to run around calling "journalists" on so much of the one-sided, poorly-researched drivel that gets published about messengers... so i guess were making progress. i guess its just frustrating that things we all ought to be doing *together* end up having to be organized by one person who simply gets fed up with waiting for everyone to hop on board, and takes the initiative...
whoops. venting! look what you triggered!
have a great time in mpls. nice city, i should visit again sometime. ill be gone for 5 days when you get back, so i wont see you two for nearly 2 weeks! how will i survive?
