I just got home from seeing a restored print of "Sweet Smell of Success" at the Castro. Tony Curtis, Burt Lancaster, the ugliness of capitalism, and lots of great dialogue.

"My left hand hasn't seen my right hand for 30 years."

"The cat's in the bag and the bag's in the river."

(About Tony Curtis's toadying character)"When he dies, do ya think he'll go to dog and cat heaven?"

"I wouldn't want to take a bite out of you. You're a cookie full of arsenic."

And so many more. Has any genre ever loved American English more?
